Bio:

Claire Marie Mannle has her MFA from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater and her BA from Smith College. She came to Tucson via Los Angeles where she worked with The Grand Guignolers, Cornerstone Theater Company, the Antaeus Academy, and SITI Company. Around town she has worked with Arizona Repertory Theatre (The Comedy of Errors, The Tempest), The Rogue Theatre (White Snake, Macbeth, The Grapes of Wrath) and The Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre (Two Plays for Lost Souls: The Yellow Wallpaper). She has taught Commedia dell’arte at Interlochen Arts Camp, A Noise Within, and The University of Arizona where she is an Instructor for the School of Theatre, Film and Television.

Class Description:

Introduction to Commedia dell’Arte

Monday, February 19- Thursday, February 22^nd

6-9pm

This workshop features an exploration of the masks, stock characters, and scenarios of classical Italian Commedia dell’Arte through a contemporary approach. Participants will be introduced to the physical technique, character based improvisation, nimble pace, and riotous fun of the form.

HI Claire,

I hope your summer was a good one. I thought I'd touch base with you about teaching this workshop before the academic year starts and things get too hectic. We are currently looking offering short intensives for our workshop series. around 10 - 12 hours of instruction - so it might be four, 3 hour sessions (M - Th from 6-9pm) or a weekend that starts on a friday night and continues over Saturday and Sunday... or just saturday and sunday. We are finding that this short burst type of class, that gives students an introduction to a subject (a dip the toe kinda thing) seems to work with people's busy schedules. We can offer you a fee of $250. Please let me know if this is all still a go for you.

I was thinking you could do a comedia workshop, but if you'd rather do something different, let me know your thoughts. I have CC-ed Sharkey Steib, our administrative assistant, who will be coordinating all our workshop offerings moving forward. She'll be following up with you with a contract, as well as getting a photo, bio and workshop description from you.

FYI - the other workshops we're hoping to offer are: Calavera Mask Making in October; Biomechanics (Meyerhold style) in November; Mime in March.

I hope your camping went well. I have selected someone else to direct Mermaid Hour. I was very glad to meet with you and get to know you a little better. In the end, the other candidate had considerably more professional experience with traditional scripts/family dramas, having directed about 25 plays in Tucson and other parts of the country.

I hope we can maintain a connection, however. I would 100% hire you to direct more physical based/devised productions. I'm curious if you would be open to teaching a two to four day work shop for borderlands? I'd like to offer a series of skill building workshops, taught by different instructors through out the season. Is this something we might talk about further?

NNPN Rolling World Premiere of The Mermaid Hour- For Pilar and Bird, navigating their tween daughter Violet’s transition is tricky as they juggle not only their own opposing parenting styles but her impulsive nature. Vi is just as concerned about her best friend Jacob, who she wishes was her boyfriend, and when nothing is going as she wants, she makes a YouTube video that pushes everyone’s buttons. As her parents wrestle with all of Vi's choices, they confront the gaps between them as a couple--and which they'll have to overcome to see them all through.

The Mermaid Hour will be produced at Borderlands Theater as a part of a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere. Other partnering theaters are Miracle Theater Group and Actors Theatre of Charlotte.

I hope your summer was a good one. I thought I'd touch base with you about teaching this workshop before the academic year starts and things get too hectic. We are currently looking offering short intensives for our workshop series. around 10 - 12 hours of instruction - so it might be four, 3 hour sessions (M - Th from 6-9pm) or a weekend that starts on a friday night and continues over Saturday and Sunday... or just saturday and sunday. We are finding that this short burst type of class, that gives students an introduction to a subject (a dip the toe kinda thing) seems to work with people's busy schedules. We can offer you a fee of $250. Please let me know if this is all still a go for you.

I was thinking you could do a comedia workshop, but if you'd rather do something different, let me know your thoughts. I have CC-ed Sharkey Steib, our administrative assistant, who will be coordinating all our workshop offerings moving forward. She'll be following up with you with a contract, as well as getting a photo, bio and workshop description from you.

FYI - the other workshops we're hoping to offer are: Calavera Mask Making in October; Biomechanics (Meyerhold style) in November; Mime in March.

I hope your camping went well. I have selected someone else to direct Mermaid Hour. I was very glad to meet with you and get to know you a little better. In the end, the other candidate had considerably more professional experience with traditional scripts/family dramas, having directed about 25 plays in Tucson and other parts of the country.

I hope we can maintain a connection, however. I would 100% hire you to direct more physical based/devised productions. I'm curious if you would be open to teaching a two to four day work shop for borderlands? I'd like to offer a series of skill building workshops, taught by different instructors through out the season. Is this something we might talk about further?

Claire Marie Mannle has her MFA from the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater and her BA from Smith College. She came to Tucson via Los Angeles where she worked with The Grand Guignolers, Cornerstone Theater Company, the Antaeus Academy, and SITI Company. Around town she has worked with Arizona Repertory Theatre (The Comedy of Errors, The Tempest), The Rogue Theatre (White Snake, Macbeth, The Grapes of Wrath) and The Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre (Two Plays for Lost Souls: The Yellow Wallpaper). She has taught Commedia dell’arte at Interlochen Arts Camp, A Noise Within, and The University of Arizona where she is an Instructor for the School of Theatre, Film and Television.

I hope this email finds you well. We met very briefly at a studio series planning meeting earlier this spring. I am currently looking for a director to direct the rolling world premiere of THE MERMAID HOUR by David Valdes Greenwood. Bobbi gave me your email with a very good recommendation.

I've attached the script and copied a short synopsis below. Rehearsals would start Feb 3, Tech March 12, Opens March 16.

NNPN Rolling World Premiere of The Mermaid Hour- For Pilar and Bird, navigating their tween daughter Violet’s transition is tricky as they juggle not only their own opposing parenting styles but her impulsive nature. Vi is just as concerned about her best friend Jacob, who she wishes was her boyfriend, and when nothing is going as she wants, she makes a YouTube video that pushes everyone’s buttons. As her parents wrestle with all of Vi's choices, they confront the gaps between them as a couple--and which they'll have to overcome to see them all through.

The Mermaid Hour will be produced at Borderlands Theater as a part of a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere. Other partnering theaters are Miracle Theater Group and Actors Theatre of Charlotte.
