Barrio Stories – A 10 Year Retrospective / festival-drama

First Rehearsal: September 21, 2026

After 10 years and four Barrio Stories Festivals, Borderlands Theater presents the Barrio Stories greatest hits: a dozen short plays – based on collected oral histories – tell the story of Tucson’s oldest Barrios; a theater festival where the audience walks through the world of the play, as memories and the past come to life all around them.

Cast:

Looking for actors of all backgrounds and ages to play characters from the diverse communities that intersected in Tucson’s barrios.  Most actors will be cast in multiple vignettes/roles.

A Drunkard’s Tale of Melted Wings and Memories / drama

Set in 1970s Barrio Hollywood, Nacho “el Borracho” Robles, is  a paralyzed WWII vet, haunted by the ghosts of the past. His goddaughter, Roshanda, and a young generation of Chicano activists work to build a community center, but neither past nor present are what they seem.  A Chicano mythology filled with barrio archetypes, and inspired by historical events. 4M, 4W
