Anita / musical

Anita, is a Latine musical that pays homage to the intermingling of the Southwest borderlands with cumbia, bolero, americana and R&B- pop fusions. A story of resilience and joy, and the power of community and never giving up.
While the musical is primarily in English, some basic knowledge of Spanish is helpful. PLEASE NOTE: THE CHILDREN IN THE MUSICAL WILL BE PLAYED BY HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE-AGED ACTORS. ALL ACTORS MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE.
- Anita Fuentes 12 yrs old, sassy and vibrant, le echa muchas ganas, immigrated from El Salvador with her parents.
- Luz Dorada, mid 30’s, five generations Mexican American, going for gold but doesn’t realize how golden her life could be.
- Esme, 15 years old, Esme is short for Esmeralda, green with envy for everything she’s been cheated out of.
- Carmen, 13 years old, helpful and kind, a leader.
- Lisa, 8 years old, hardly speaks, traumatized, and smart.
- Nanita, 6 years old, adorable new arrival to the shelter, barely speaks English.
- Mari Vega, 20’s, a badass chola youtuber(Performs a cumbia rap song.)multi cast as: Governor, 40’s-50’s woman, also plays reporter, office staff, pupusa customer, and townsfolk.
- Manuel Fuentes, mid 30’s, a helpful janitor, multicast as John Panchez, photographer, pupusa customer and townsfolk. (sings a song as John Panchez)
- Mami, Anita’s mom speaks English with an accent. (sings a song with Anita)
- Papi, Anitas dad speaks English with an accent.
