Standing with Saguaros celebrates the saguaro cactus and its role as a portal into the many stories and species within the Sonoran Desert. Staged amidst the saguaro forests of Saguaro National Park, this unique performance is informed by a series of events and activities that spanned the winter, spring, and summer of 2016, the year of the National Park Service Centennial.

A captivating, family-friendly shadow play based on Patricia Preciado Martin’s short stories “La Toreadora”, “La Bailarina”, and “El Creciente”. Los buquis (kids) from the ol’ neighborhood have front row seats to nana’s Sunday Matador ritual, a girl who always wanted to be a dancer, and a flash flood in all its glory come to life through the magic of shadow puppetry.
